Cornerstone Baptist to host Hero Appreciation Day

SWARTZ CREEK — Cornerstone Baptist Church, 6273 Miller Rd., will host a special service to honor First Responders in Genesee County, starting at 10:45 a.m., Sept. 8.

“We want to say thank you for putting your life on the line to protect and serve the residents and patrons of Genesee County,” stated a flier announcing the event. “In a time when good deeds often go unnoticed, please know that we love you and appreciate all that you do for us.”

C-A teachers participating writing program

FLINT TWP. — Several Carman Ainsworth teachers are currently participating in Project Write II in collaboration with Michigan State University’s Colleges of Arts and Letters and Education. PWII provides teacher development aimed at improving student writing and thinking.

Teachers begin in a scoring workshop using the national Writing Project’s Analytical Writing Continuum rubric, developing both holistic and analytical scores for their students’ papers. This project addresses student’s engagement with a focus on problems and projects that address student concerns and community needs. Conducted in a technology-laced environment, PWII demonstrates the use of technologies as tools for improving student writing and learning and as platforms for developing new forms of writing. — R.S.

Students with top grades, get great locker perk

FLINT TWP. — Sort of like landing a plum parking spot close to a building, starting this school year Carman-Ainsworth High School students in the 10-12th grades who are in the Top 50 of their class will earn a prime locker assignment. Lockers A100 – A363 will be reserved for eligible students, according to an announcement in the school newsletter. —R.S.

C-A Class Reunions Planned

FLINT TWP.— Hoover School Reunion for all former students, teachers and neighborhood residents will be held Sept. 8 beginning at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Memorial Home Lounge, 4314 W. Carpenter Road, Mt. Morris Township. For more information call Jack Steco at 732-8857.
