“Starting a Business” class in Flint

FLINT — A free seminar on starting a business will be offered at Kettering University in Flint on Sept. 19, 5-7:30 p.m.

“Starting a Business” provides a comprehensive overview of what it takes to plan, start, and operate a small business.

The seminar covers information and tools to evaluate market potential for products/services, start-up costs, financing options, and business planning. Every registered attendee will receive a copy of the 60-page book “Guide to Starting and Operating a Small Business.”

The seminar is presented monthly in Flint by the I-69 Trade Corridor Region of the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) hosted by Kettering University, serving small businesses in Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer and St. Clair counties.

MI-SBTDC is part of a statewide organization that is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U. S. Small Business Administration, providing no cost counseling, training, information-based planning assistance, and resources for any new ventures, existing and growing businesses, and innovative technology ventures.

C&L Ward raises money for Boys and Girls Club

DAVISON TWP. — C&L Ward has raised $143 in its monthly “Likes for Dollars” campaign and it will donate the funds to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint.

On May 1, C&L Ward announced it will sponsor a non-profit each month. During the month, they have asked active Facebook users to like their business page. For each like received during the month, they will give $1 to the sponsored non-profit organization.

The more likes they get in a month’s time, the more money they will donate. The non-profit of the month will be featured on the C&L Ward Facebook page, website and possibly in other company advertising. In September, they will sponsor The Pink Night Event Facebook page which takes place at Blackstone’s on Oct. 3 and raises money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Along with $1 donation for each like for C&L Ward’s Facebook page, they will give $1 for each like for the Pink Night Facebook page and sponsor a bra and auction item at the October event, as well. — G.G.

Church planning sale

FLINT TWP.— A huge variety of items will be offered at a church Rummage/Bake Sale to be held at the Life Enrichment Center – corner of Dye & Lennon Rds, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 19-21.
