Salvation Army accepting applications for help

FLINT — The Salvation Army will be taking applications for Christmas assistance from Oct. 30-Nov. 1, 2013 from 9 am -2:30 pm for Genesee County residents.

Those in need of help with toys, food, and clothing for the holiday season will have the option of two locations to apply again this year. The Salvation Army at 211 W. Kearsley Street in downtown Flint and The Salvation Army Beecher Corps located at 1475 W. Coldwater Road. No appointment needed.

The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program is intended to help those who would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas. To sign up for help, applicants must bring the following documents:

• Current ID for all adults in the household — Social security cards or a print out from the social security office dated within 30 days and Michigan drivers’ licenses or Michigan IDs.

• Proof of dependents in the home — Birth certificates and social security cards or a print out from the social security office dated within 30 days. (Must be parent or provide proof of legal guardianship).

• Current bills — Bills must contain the name and address of the individual applying for assistance. Current bills include rent, mortgage, water, gas, electric, phone, cable, etc.

• Proof of income — Pay stubs, child support statements, Social Security, SSI, SSDI, DHS statement, unemployment/workman’s comp, etc.

Free adult dentistry event in November

Story Family fundraiser at Great Harvest Bread

GRAND BLANC TWP – Great Harvest Bread is hosting a fundraiser for a local family whose mother recently lost her battle to Breast Cancer. The event will be held Oct.13, and the store will be opening its doors and giving all profits of the day’s sales to the Story family. There will be a variety of breads and sweets as well as mega-baskets for auction. Please join us to support this family during this extremely difficult time. Prescription drug drop off

ATLAS — Prescription Drug Drop Off will be held Oct. 12 at Atlas Township Hall and the Sheriff’s Department Sub-station, 7386 S. Gale Rd., from 10 a.m-2 p.m. This service is provided by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department.— P.S.
