McLaren Diabetes program to hold health fair

FLINT — McLaren’s Diabetes Self Management Program is partnering with Sanofi-Aventis for its ninth annual free health fair.

This year’s event will feature Riva Greenberg, who will present “Taking Control.” Riva is a real patient with real A1C control who will provide real inspiration for having better blood sugar control.

The program is being held in Ballenger Auditorium at McLaren Flint on Nov. 6 from 5- 7:30 p.m. The health fair will also feature a variety of exhibitors.

Support group to hear about Alzheimers

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will meet Oct. 23, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington Ave. Flint.

The featured speaker is Laura J. Ruhle, BA/CT, program coordinator, Alzheimer’s Association-Greater Michigan Chapter,Central Michigan Region. Topic: ‘What is Alzheimer’s? What I need to know?”

Learn about warning signs this disease, how it affects the brain and services provided by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The meeting is open to the general public.

Eerie Experiments at Longway Planetarium

FLINT — Join Longway Planetarium’s staff of Halloween hooligans as they mix up some fizzing, color changing potions, make glow in the dark monster hands, and build an obnoxious sounding ghost caller. This is happening Oct. 25, for families with kids ages 8 and up.

Times are 6-7 p.m. (program), 7 p.m. (pizza and pop), $12 per person or $40 for a family of 4 — includes pizza. These fast-paced and fun hands-on activities and demonstrations are sure to get you in the Halloween spirit. Register online or print off the registration form and mail it in. Please note: there is $2 service fee for all online purchases.
