UM-Flint, Flint Rotary Club host ‘Economic Forum’

FLINT — The University of Michigan-Flint’s School of Management (SOM) and the Rotary Club of Flint invite the community to “The Economic Forum” on Dec. 13, in the Northbank Center Grand Ballroom at 432 North Saginaw St., Flint.

The event takes place from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. with a lunch buffet served at 11:30 a.m. and the program beginning at noon. The event will feature a panel of financial and economic leaders who will address the topics of U.S. and World Economics. This year’s panel includes Dr. Yener Kandogan, Associate Dean and Professor of International Business, School of Management, and Dr. Christopher Douglas, Associate Professor of Economics, Department of Economics.

The cost to attend the forum is $10 per person, which includes lunch.

Security Credit Union partners with local charities

FLINT — With the holidays around the corner, Flint-based Security Credit Union (SCU) has teamed up with four mid-Michigan charities to give back and spread cheer this Christmas season: the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan (FBEM), the Old Newsboys of Flint, the Genesee County Animal Shelter and The Salvation Army.

“With the hustle and bustle of busy lives, it’s easy to take what we have for granted,” said Christopher Estes, SCU president and CEO. “Christmas is the perfect time to reflect. Partnering with these worthy charities gives us the opportunity to give back and give thanks, while helping community members in need.”

Now through the end of the year, SCU members in Genesee, Lapeer and Saginaw counties will have the opportunity to participate in the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s Ornament Promotion. For a $1 contribution, members will receive a paper Christmas ornament to sign and hang in their local office. Each $1 donation enables the FBEM to provide six meals to community members in need.

Details: Visit SCU offices in Genesee and Shiawassee counties will give hope this holiday season as they participate in The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign. Through Dec. 24, each credit union will host red kettles to collect donations for the nonprofit’s annual fundraising campaign, which enables the organization to provide holiday meals, warm coats, clothing and children’s toys to families in need. For more information on the Red Kettle campaign, visit Exclusively in Genesee County, SCU offices will be collecting monetary donations to benefit the Old Newsboys of Flint’s Sponsor a Child Program. With a $20 donation, supporters receive a button and their name displayed on paper ornaments in their SCU office. Each contribution will provide a child in need with a holiday care and gift package.
