Kidney cancer support group to meet

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Educational Support Group will meet May 11,1:30-3:30 p.m. at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute,302 Kensington Ave. The topic will be “What Services ACS Provides.”

Glamour event fundraiser set

GOODRICH — A Gift of Change: A Desperate Housewives Glamour Event will be held May 21 from 5-9 p.m. at Victory World Outreach Center, 10291 Green Rd. An entrance fee of $10 per person includes: coupon book (one per person), Zumba and self-defense demonstration, Make-N-Takes Cooking Demonstration, food tasting, non-alcoholic drinks, shopping with your favorite vendors and much more.

For $10 per person there will be additional packages with more services available. There will be a limited number of packages available. Book early to reserve a spot.

Net proceeds to benefit the YWCA of Flint and L.A.C.A.D.A (Lapeer Area Citizens Against Domestic Assault).

Outreach East 14th Annual Flower Sale

DAVISON — Outreach East will hold its once-ayear Flower Sale on May 7 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Oxford Bank, at the corner of Davison Road and M-15 in Davison. Outreach volunteers will be selling hanging flower baskets, the perfect gift for mom on Mothers’ Day, at the bank location.

Gift certificates for flowers (annuals and perennials) and vegetables will be available for sale at Outreach East during regular business hours and at Oxford Bank on May 7.

The certificates can be for any amount and are redeemable on this date or any date after

May 7.

Outreach (located at 425 Genesee Street in Davison) is again partnering this year with Davison Greenhouse to provide all the flowers. The Greenhouse is located on the north side of Davison Road just east of Irish Road — 25% of the gift certificate value goes to Outreach.

Profits from the flower sale will provide many area families with food, clothing, and assistance to prevent utility shut-off and rent evictions. In these difficult economic times, the need in the Davison area has risen dramatically and more help is needed.

MCC Commencement Ceremony is April 30

FLINT — About 600 graduating students from Mott Community College are expected to show up at Flint’s Perani Arena on April 30 to accept their degrees in person at the college’s 2011 commencement ceremony. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m., and is free and open to the public.

Approximately 1,400 students at MCC are eligible to graduate this year. (Eligible means the students have completed or are within two classes of completing degree requirements).

This year’s commencement speaker will be The Honorable Donald W. Riegle, Jr., former United States Senator.
