Shred Day scheduled
FLINT TWP. — Township Clerk Kim Courts said that a Document Shred Day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 11, in the parking lot of the township hall, 1490 S. Dye Road. A special shred truck will be on site. Townships residents are asked to bring no more than two boxes of papers per vehicles for shredding.— R.S.
Road Commission Bristol paving project earns award
FLINT TWP. —The Genesee County Road Commission and vendor partners Ace-Saginaw Paving Co./Ace Asphalt Division and Kraft Engineering and Surveying have been recognized for paving excellence by the Asphalt Paving Association of Michigan (APAM). The team received an Award of Merit for its work on the reconstruction of West Bristol Road from Van Slyke Road to Fenton Road at the APAM/MDOT Asphalt Paving Awards program on Thursday, December 12 , at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, on the campus of MSU, East Lansing. — R.S.
State Rep. Phelps Committee Assignments
LANSING — State Representative Phil Phelps (D-Flushing) announced his assignment today to the following House committees: Energy and Technology; Health Policy; and Oversight. The assignments will begin in January 2014.
Phelps said that all three committees are critical to the future of our state, and none of them currently have representation from Genesee County.
Phelps was elected state representative in November to fill the vacant seat in the 49th House District, covering Swartz Creek, the city of Flushing, Mt. Morris City and Twp., Flint Twp. and a portion of the city of Flint. — R.S.
Vienna Township joins I-69 International Trade Corridor
GENESEE COUNTY — The I-69 International Trade Corridor Next Michigan Development Corporation (NMDC) recently voted to include Vienna Township as a member of its board. The township joins 35 municipalities in Genesee, Lapeer, Shiawassee and St. Clair counties.
The board governs the NMDC and consists of members from the participating governments including Flint Township.
Paul Brake, NMDC Board Chair called Vienna Township’s assets “a welcome addition to the host of advantages that make the I- 69 International Trade Corridor a great place to do business.”
Randy Taylor, Supervisor for Vienna Township said joining the NMDC is a great growth opportunity for the township. — R.S.
