UM-Flint lecture series to address depression

FLINT — There will be a lecture regarding clinical depression tonight, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at the University of Michigan – Flint, Harding Mott University Center (UCEN), Happenings Room, 400 Mill St.This lecture is no-charge and the public is invited.

Everyone can have a bad day, but some people experience sadness that goes beyond normal everyday ups and downs. Clinical depression is a brain disease that affects up to 20 percent of the general population. How can we recognize and respond appropriately to the signs of depression? Join Dr. Eric Achtyes at this Your Health Lecture to learn more about depression and how to find relief from this debilitating disease.

The Your Health Lecture Series is a collaborative community event sponsored by the University of Michigan-Flint, Kettering University, Mott Community College, Genesys Health System, Hurley Medical Center, McLaren Flint and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Flint Campus.

McLaren Flint announces policy changes due to flu

FLINT — Due to the seasonal flu, as a precautionary measure, McLaren Flint has revised its visitor policy. The following changes to the Medical Center’s current visiting practices are effective immediately.

• Healthy ADULTS only will be allowed to visit.

• No children under 18 years will be allowed to visit (Exception: The father of the baby or birth coach will be permitted to enter the BirthPlace if they are healthy regardless of their age).

• Visitors will be asked a series of questions related to fever, cough, sore throat, etc. If a “yes” response is given to any flu-like symptoms, the visitor will be asked to go home.

Exceptions to these visiting regulations will be waived in the event of end of life situations.

Drawings by MCC students featured in MCC exhibit

FLINT — Drawings by Mott Community College’s Basic Drawing students will be showcased in an exhibit now on display in the MCC Fine Arts Gallery through Jan. 28.

The drawings for this exhibition were selected by the MCC Art Faculty from work completed during the 2013 Fall semester and represent the broad range of assignments and techniques taught in first semester drawing courses in the Art and Design Department.

The Fine Arts Gallery is located in the Visual Arts and Design Center on the Mott Community College main campus, 1401 E. Court St. The public is always welcome. Hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
