Kohls scholarship program

GENESEE COUNTY — Nominations for kids ages six to 18 will be accepted Jan. 31–March 14 at, and nominators must be 21 years or older.

Through the program, Kohl’s will award more than 2,300 young volunteers nearly $400,000 in scholarships and prizes to reward kids who have made a positive impact on their communities.

• Two nominees from each of the more than 1,100 Kohl’s stores nationwide will win a $50 Kohl’s gift card.

• Nearly 200 of the store winners will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward higher education.

• Ten national winners will be awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships for higher education, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

MAF accepting applications for historic preservation

DETROIT — The Michigan Architectural Foundation is once again accepting applications for the Evans Memorial Grant for Historic Preservation. Thanks to a partnership with the Clannad Foundation, a five-year commitment from Quinn Evans Architects of Ann Arbor and an anonymous endowment, a grant of $7,500 will be awarded to a not-for-profit (501(c)(3) organization that can demonstrate a creative solution to a preservation problem.

Para-legal group forming

GENESEE COUNTY — The Board of Directors of Great Lakes Paralegal Association (a newly-formed NALA Affiliated Association) has been hard at work putting together events for paralegals in the mid-Michigan area.

Great Lakes Paralegal Association(GLPA) provides opportunities for continuing legal education, networking, professional mentoring, and the promotion of national paralegal certification.

The organization will hold an evening with the Honorable Janice K. Cunningham on Feb. 26 at the Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe, East Lansing.

Meet the Buyer event planned on Jan. 30

FLINT — The Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Procurement and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) will host the first Meet the Buyer event in Genesee County in partnership with the I-69 International Trade Corridor.

The event will take place Jan. 30, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint.

The Chamber PTAC and I-69 International Corridor partners will host Genesee County’s first Meet the Buyer event.— G.G.
