Go Red event at GV Mall Saturday

FLINT TWP. — Women wearing red dresses are expected to join in the fun of God Red for Women, a Celebrity ad Community Dash from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Genesee Valley Center shopping mall. Go Red for Women invites women from across the community to put on a red dress, grab some friends and walk, run or strut across the finish line in the free event sponsored by the American Heart Association to raise awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America. Free registration is from 10-11 a.m. at the East Mall Entrance, near Macy’s. The dashes begin at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the participant with the Highest Heels, Wearing the Most Red, and the Best Red Dress. — R.S.

Seventh Annual Daddy/ Daughter and Mother/Son dance this weekend

FLINT TWP. — The Rankin/Dillon/ Learning Community 7th Annual Daddy/ Daughter Mother/Son Dance will take place Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 At Rankin Elementary School from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per couple plus $3 for a second child. Tickets are on sale at Rankin or at the door . Dancing, photos and refreshments will be provided. — R.S.

C-A board selects officers for 2014-15

FLINT TWP. — Gloria Nealy was selected president of the Carman-Ainsworth School Board at its January 21 organizational meeting. Nealy takes over from Patrice Hatcher, who was elected vice president. Other officers are Joy Crane, secretary and Ann Saunders, treasurer. Nealy, Hatcher and Crane will be up for re-election in November, should they choose to run again. — R.S.

Share the love on Valentines Day

FLINT TWP. — Mrs. Fields and Cinnabon at Genesee Valley Center shopping mall will be celebrating Valentine’s Day by giving back to the community. For two days only — Thursday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb. 14, — Mrs. Fields and Cinnabon will collect non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan through their “Share the Love for Our Community” campaign. In exchange for donations, shoppers will receive $5 off the purchase of one Mrs. Fields 14 inch chocolate chip heart “cake” or $5 off the purchase of one 6 pack of Cinnabons. Shoppers can also show their support by purchasing a “Share the Love” paper heart for a donation. All donations will be collected at a special kiosk set up in front of Mrs. Fields, located in the JCPenney wing. Customers can place pre-orders for the Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookie “cakies” for pick up on Feb. 13-14 by calling 810- 230-7511. — R.S.
