Seniors hit the road

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Senior Citizens Center on Graham Road is planning several casino trips in coming months. The next one will be an overnight trip April 17-18 to Fire Keepers Casino in Battle Creek and Hoosier Park Racing Casino in Anderson, Indiana. The cost is $129 per person double occupancy and $174 per person single occupancy and includes perks. A $50 deposit is required at sign up. Other trips are planned for May 12 to the MotorCity Casino in Detroit and on June 9 and June 23 to Caesars Windsor. Details: Call 810-732-6290. — R.S.

HealthPlus Toastmasters celebrating 30 years

FLINT TWP. — A 30th anniversary celebration for HealthPlus Toastmasters will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 10 at the Life Enrichment Center, 2512 South Dye Road. 2nd annual Summer Youth Expo coming up

GENESEE COUNTY — The second annual Priority Children Summer Youth Expo will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday May 15 at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint. More than 60 organizations are expected to attend this free event to provide information on free and low-cost summer activities for children of all ages. These will include art and music programs, science and sports camps, job training programs, community service opportunities and more. Free snacks and a bounce house also will be provided. Hurley celebrating Doctor’s Day

FLINT — On March 28, Hurley Medical Center will celebrate Doctor’s Day. The Hurley family will salutes the more than 500 doctors and resident physicians in our community for their commitment to quality patient care and for dedicating their lives to help others live healthier lives. Doctor’s Day is celebrated nationwide on March 30. The first was held in 1933 in Winder, Georgia, started by a doctor’s wife.

On March 30, 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a Resolution Commemorating Doctors’ Day. In 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national Doctor’s Day. Following overwhelming approval by the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, on October 30, 1990, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) officially designating March 30 as “National Doctor’s Day.” – R.S.
