Free college tuition

FLINT TWP. — A Parent Information Night to learn more about Michigan Advanced Technician Training (MAT2) will be held from 7-8 p.m., April 3 at Carman Ainsworth High School in the media center. MAT2 provides students with college tuition paid for by the employer; on-the-job training with pay; an advanced associate’s degree in a high-tech, in demand field and a guaranteed job upon successful completion of the program. In exchange, MAT2 graduates commit to remaining on the job for at least two years after the training period ends. Pizza and salad will be served during the presentation. — R.S.

Linden Road closure

FLINT TWP. — The Genesee County Drain Commissioner’s Office has closed multiple lanes on Linden Road just south of Beecher Road in Flint Township due to a water main break on March 31. The area was expected to remain closed for approximately one week as the road is repaired. Two northbound lanes, but only one southbound lane remained open. Motorists are advised to allow themselves additional time to reach their destinations or seek alternate routes. It is the third water main break on that stretch of Linden Road so far this year. — R.S.

Parks and Rec. committee wins beautification award

FLINT TWP. — For the second year in a row, the township’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee received an award during the annual Genesee County Beautification Annual Conference and Beautification Awards, sponsored by Keep Genesee County Beautiful. This year, the committee was cited for beautification efforts at the township hall including building flower beds and planting flowers. Last year, they won for planting flowers along the Genesee Valley recreational trail. — R.S.
