Hip Hop Extravaganza talent show at mall this weekend
FLINT TWP. — For the second year, the Genesee Alcohol and Addiction Prevention (GAAP) Coalition is hosting a “Hip-Hop Extravaganza” on May 10 from 1:30-4 p.m. at Genesee Valley Center to promote substance abuse prevention. It will include a talent contest where Genesee County residents 12 and older will creatively show how substance abuse has affected their lives or what they are doing or can do to prevent it. Entries include original artwork, posters, skits, songs and spoken word. Prizes will be awarded per category for two age groups, 12-18 and 19+. Other activities will include information for parents and concerned adults, special guest speakers, and light refreshments.

Fashion show at CAMS
FLINT TWP. — YouthQuest participants at Carman-Ainsworth Middle School are going to roll out the red carpet and strut their stuff at a Rip The Hallway Fashion Show, 4:30-6 p.m. May 15 at CAMS, 1409 Maple Road. Admission is free. Students will be modeling clothes they deem fashionable. They will also be performing some original and well known songs. There will be music and everyone will take a picture. C-A robotics teams did well at world competition
FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth robotics teams experienced great success at the World Robotics Championship, April 23-26, in St. Louis, MO. Big Mo, the high school team, finished 12th out of 100 teams, making it as far as the quarterfinals in its division. Mo’ Peeps, based at Rankin Elementary, won first place in Core Values with the Inspiration Award. Both talented teams are seeking supporters for next school year. FLINT TWP. — Applications will be available May 12– June 10 for the Carman- Ainsworth Community Schools the Limited Schools of Choice program for the 2014- 2015 school year. A limited number of non-resident children will be allowed to attend CA Schools beginning in the fall of 2014. There is a 30-day window for CA to accept applications.
