WFBA awards three annual scholarships
FLINT TWP. —”How the Flint Public Library helps you — professionally and personally,’’ is the topic for Kay Schwartz, Director, Flint Public Library, will be guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the West Flint Business Association, noon-1:15 p.m. Wednesday , May 21 at Valley Family Restaurant, 2009 Miller Road. The meeting also will showcase the three winners of WFBA’s annual scholarship awards to area students. The Adult Learner Student Scholarship is for a person in the workforce who is returning to school to improve his/ her life. The High School Community Service Scholarship goes to a high school senior for furthering their education. The GASC Technology Center Scholarship is to assist a high school senior enrolled in a Career & Technology program at GASC who is continuing his/her education in a related specialty area. — R.S.
Township holds annual econ. development meeting
FLINT TWP. — The Economic Development Corporation will hold its annual meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday May 20 at the township hall. Business includes an election of officers and a report from the township’s economic enhancement director. Public comment is welcome. — R.S.
C-A places third in School Spirit Challenge
FLINT TWP. — Weighing in with a whopping 40,836 pounds of food collected for the food bank, Carman-Ainsworth High School finished in third place in the ABC-12 School Spirit Challenge. The yearlong contest ends with the Spirit Cup Trophy presented to the school that collected the most food. C-A last won the trophy in 2009-2010. — R.S.
Sign up for 11th Annual Robotics Academy
FLINT TWP. — Enrollment is open for the 11th Rankin Elementary Robotics Academy. Kids will learn how to build and program a robot using a LEGO robotics kit, led by members of the past FIRST LEGO League World Championship team. There will be a maximum of three children per robot. Kids will also have an opportunity to see other robots and go on a field trip to see real-world robots in action. Only 24 students will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The camp is for students entering the 4th thru 8th grades and will be held June 16-20 at Rankin Elementary School from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. A $180 fee includes an academy t-shirt.
