FLINT TWP. — A free scrap tire collection will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the township hall on Dye Road. Residents can bring in up to seven tires (off the rims) for proper disposal. A photo identification or other proof of township residency will be required. The collection is funded by a state grant. Also the first of several planned Gateway Corridor clean-ups also is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine. A previously scheduled kick-off on May 3 was rained out. The purpose is to pick up trash along freeway ramps along I-69 and I-75 at Bristol, Miller and Corunna roads. Volunteers, including several college students, have signed up to help. More volunteers are welcome and advised to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. The group will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Comfort Inn on Austin’s Parkway. Lunch will be provided afterward. — R.S.
Bring your dog for a walk in the park
FLINT TWP. — The GLEANER Greater Flint Area Arbor (a fraternal organization) and the PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) Animal Rescue of Swartz Creek are sponsoring “WOOF WALK” to benefit PAWS, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at the Flint Township Park on Norko Drive, next door to the police station. The title “WOOF WALK” is a play on PAWS’ “Raise the Woof” fundraising program for build a new animal shelter, according to a press release.
