Hazardous waste collection this weekend
GENESEE COUNTY — Household Hazardous Waste & Electronic Waste Collection is scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at two collection sites – Swartz Creek High School, and the Flint East – Water Sewer Center, 3310 East Court Street. Coordinated by the Household Hazardous Waste Consortium, collections are held periodically each year. Accepted items include aerosol cans, antifreeze, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, brake fluid, gasoline, oil based paint and old prescriptions Unacceptable items include commercial waste, latex paint, medical waste, radioactive materials, explosive materials and TV consoles. Walking dog for good cause
FLINT TWP. — Prizes will be offered for the best dressed dog, best trick, longest tail, shortest tail, biggest and smallest dog at the “Woof Walk” dog walk and funfest hosted by PAWS Animal Rescue of Swartz Creek and The Gleaner Greater Flint Area Arbor from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14 at the Flint Township Park on Norko Drive (next to the police station). The fundraising event will offer adoptions all day, pet massages, “Pawcasso” Art, micro-chipping, dog therapy and CPR demonstrations and more. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event or register early to avoid the lines. A one-mile paved course will include water stations. A veterinarian will be on duty for emergencies. Dogs must be on a leash and not in heat. A raffle, refreshments and prizes to the three highest donors will also be offered. Bags will be provided to cleanup after your pet. Trinity Lutheran car show
FENTON — The Wheelz, Dealz & Mealz car show will be June 14, at 1025 Main Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 8 a.m. entry for show cars and vendors. In addition to a wide variety of cool cars, there will be swap and sell car parts, craft vendors, pig roast dinner, beer and wine tent, live music and 50-50 drawings every two hours. A scavenger hunt with prizes will involve finding unique features of show cars. Children and adults are welcome to bring their cars made in cub scouts to run them down the track as often as they want for $5. Admission is free.
