Walking the dog for a good cause

FLINT TWP. — Prizes will be offered for the best dressed dog, best trick, longest tail, shortest tail, biggest and smallest dog at the “Woof Walk” dog walk and funfest hosted by PAWS Animal Rescue of Swartz Creek and The Gleaner Greater Flint Area Arbor from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14 at the Flint Township Park on Norko Drive (next to the police station). The fundraising event will offer adoptions all day, pet massages, “Pawcasso” Art, micro-chipping, dog therapy and CPR demonstrations and more. Registration starts at 10:3) a.m. on the day of the event or register early to avoid the lines. A one-mile paved course will include water stations. A veterinarian will be on duty for emergencies. Dogs must be on a leash and not in heat. A raffle, refreshments and prizes to the three highest donors will also be offered. Bags will be provided to cleanup after your pet. Rummage sale to support county Literacy Coalition

BURTON — The Genesee County Literacy Coalition will host a Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 21 and 22, rain or shine, at 2145 East Williamson, off Saginaw Street in Burton. Proceeds go to the purchase of tutor books, materials and training expenses. The Genesee County Literacy Coalition is a nonprofit organization that helps adults read for free by training tutors and getting them into the Genesee County community.
