Nominations sought for 2014 Libby Award

FLINT — Do you admire a woman who is involved in activities that empower and provide a positive role model for women and girls in Genesee County? Has she devoted her time, talent and treasure to area nonprofit organizations that provide programs and services to educate and inspire women or girls of all ages?

Then consider honoring this individual by submitting her name in nomination for the 2014 Libby Award sponsored by the Flint Women and Girls Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. The award was created in 2000 to honor the achievements and contributions of Olivia P. “Libby” Maynard, a lifelong philanthropist and advocate for women and girls in Genesee County.

The Libby Award is presented every two years to an outstanding woman who:

• Demonstrates philanthropic activity on behalf of women and girls

• Inspires and influences diverse groups of women and girls

• Acts as a role model in activities specific to women and girls

• Empowers women and/or has provided assistance on their behalf

Applications are being accepted through Aug. 4. The award will be presented during Flint Women & Girls Day set for Oct. 7 at 7:30 a.m. at the Flint Golf Club. Nomination forms are available online at www.cfgf.org.

Merrihew named chief operating officer

FLINT — Security Credit Union (SCU) has named Chad Merrihew chief operating officer. He succeeds John Sayer who retired in June 2013 after 35 years of service to the credit union.

Merrihew began his career in the financial services industry at SCU in 1989. Throughout his 25 years with the credit union, he served in a variety of positions, most recently as Vice President, Operations – a position he held for the 10 years prior to taking on the role of Interim COO in June 2013.

“It has been an honor to serve SCU members, staff and community, and I look forward to continuing my service as Chief Operating Officer,” Merrihew said.

A resident of Birch Run, Merrihew is an active member of community. He currently serves as a member of the planning committee for the Whaley Golf Classic, an annual fundraiser benefiting the Whaley Children’s Center, and formerly served on the event’s executive committee. Merrihew also served on the board of directors for Family Promise of Genesee County.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and marketing from Baker College.
