Paperback Blowout
FLINT TWP. — The Friends of the McCarty Library will host a used paperback book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 and from 9 a.m- 12 p.m. Saturday, August 9 at the Flint Township Senior Center, 2071 Graham Rd. They will be selling eight books for $1. — R.S.
Smoke, carbon monoxide detectors available
FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Fire Department has received a grant to distribute a limited supply of smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide detectors. One of each is available to residents living in the designated Community Development Block Grant area. A map showing these areas qualifying areas is posted on the township’s website at www.flinttownship.org. A picture ID is required to pick up the detectors at any one the three Fire Stations. Police department hosting National Night Out
FLINT TWP. — National Night Out (NNO) will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 at the Flint Township Police Station, 5200 Norko Dr. Now in its 31st year, NNO is a unique community safety event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and the Flint Township Police Department. Several participating businesses are expected to attend to display goods and services. — R.S.
Seniors hit the road
FLINT TWP. — Upcoming trips planned by the Carman Ainsworth Senior Citizens Center include:
°Caesars Windsor, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25, at a cost of $20 per person for the first trip and the second trip is free. The bus departs at 12:30 pm and returns at approximately 8:30 p.m. Proof of Citizenship is required such as Passport, U.S. Passcard or Enhanced driver’s license.
°FireKeepers Casino, Sept. 15. at a cost of $30 per person, departing by bus at 9 a.m. and returning at approximately 6 p.m.
°Kewadin Casino, Oct. 19, at a cost of $119 per person double occupancy or $159 single occupant. Contact the Senior Center for more details at 732-6290. — R.S.
Robotics Yard Sale Fundraiser needs items
FLINT TWP. — Donations are now being accepted for a Robotics Yard Sale Fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 30; Sunday, August 31 and Monday, Sept. 1 at 5301 S. Dyewood Drive, Flint, between Court Street and Calkins off Dye Rd. All proceeds go to the Carman-Ainsworth High School robotics team, which earned a trip to the world championship meet in St. Louis this school year.
