C-A readies for homecoming

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth’s Homecoming on October 17 begins with a parade set to start at 4:30 p.m. from South Baptist Church on Van Slyke Road, heading south to Maple Road then east to the middle school. The Homecoming football game kicks off at 7 p.m.. Th Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 18 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $10 each. — R.S.

Late Start Wednesdays

FLINT TWP. — All C-A schools will begin one hour later on Wednesdays beginning October 1 thru April 22. Late Start provide time for teacher teams to review students tests, examine student work, analyze test data, develop and refine curriculum, and write assessments. C-A is offering fun-filled activities for K-5 children on Late Start Wednesdays. Two workers are needed at Randels Elementary and three at Dye Elementary to help with Late Start Wednesdays from 8:45-10 a.m. Details: Call 810-591-7238. — R.S.

Chief thanks business owner for donations

FLINT TWP. — Police Chief George Sippert publicly thanked Larry Holmes, owner of Michigan Battery Equipment, 2612 Lavelle Road, for his generosity to the township. Most recently, Holmes donated batteries to replace bad ones in police department Humvees. — R.S.

Ask permission to burn

FLINT TWP. — Fire Chief John Ringwelski issued a friendly reminder that burn permits are needed before lighting up leaves or other items in your year. Call the fire department at 810-732-4413 to get a permit, otherwise a fire truck “might show up at their door’’ if burning without a permit, he said. A burn permit is good for one day and no burning is allowed between midnight and 6 p.m. — R.S.

Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet set for Oct. 18

FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome its Class of 2014 into membership on Oct. 18 at the Holy Redeemer Family Life Center on Bristol Road. Social hour will begin at 4:30 p.m. Individuals being honored include: Sharon Brown, a 1975 Ainsworth stand-out with eleven sports letters for basketball, softball and speedball; Jerry Parker, a 1985 All State Defensive Star for the Ainsworth Spartans; Andrea Wolf, a 1980 All State Carman swimmer; Eric Wilson, a 1981 Carman All State baseball pitcher and Nick Stapleton, a 1997 Carman-Ainsworth All State basketball star. Teams to be honored include the 1981, 1982 and 1983 Carman girls swimming teams and the Carman- Ainsworth girls tennis teams from 1995- 1998.
