Book sale this weekend

FLINT TWP. — The GDL McCarty branch Friends of the Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. The sale is a periodic library fundraiser. — R.S.

C-A readies for homecoming

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth’s Homecoming on October 17 begins with a parade set to start at 4:30 p.m. from South Baptist Church on Van Slyke Road, heading south to Maple Road then east to the middle school. The Homecoming football game kicks off at 7 p.m.. The Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 18 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at the high school. — R.S.

Hall of Fame Banquet

FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome its Class of 2014 into membership on Oct. 18 at the Holy Redeemer Family Life Center on Bristol Road. Social hour will begin at 4:30 p.m. Individuals being honored include: Sharon Brown, a 1975 Ainsworth stand-out with eleven sports letters for basketball, softball and speedball; Jerry Parker, a 1985 All State Defensive Star for the Ainsworth Spartans; Andrea Wolf, a 1980 All State Carman swimmer; Eric Wilson, a 1981 Carman All State baseball pitcher and Nick Stapleton, a 1997 Carman-Ainsworth All State basketball star. Teams to be honored include the 1981, 1982 and 1983 Carman girls swimming teams and the Carman- Ainsworth girls tennis teams from 1995- 1998. Tickets for the event are $40 and can be reserved by calling Diana Balbaugh at 810-591-7309. — R.S.

Fire department giving away smoke detectors

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Fire Department has received a grant to distribute a limited supply of smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide detectors. One will be given to low and moderate residents living in a qualifying Community Development Block Grant area. Fire Chief John Ringwelski said about 20 of 129 available have been distributed. The department was able to obtain them at half price working with Home Depot, he said. They can be picked up at the fire department between 1-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. A picture identification is required as proof of residency. A map of qualifying areas is posted on the township website. — R.S.
