Santa’s arrival

FLINT TWP. — Santa Claus is coming to town. He will arrive via a Flint Township fire truck at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 7 in the Outdoor Village wing of Genesee Valley Center shopping mall. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served while supplies last. In case of bad weather, Santa’s arrival will be held indoors in the JC Penney wing.

Santa will take up residence at the mall’s center court beginning where he will be available to visit and take photos with kids through Christmas Eve. His hours will be 7-8 p.m. on Nov. 7; from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and noon to 5 p.m. November 8 through Dec. 23; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 24. There is a fee to take photos with Santa. No personal cameras, video cameras or cell phone camera are allowed on the set. — R.S.

Church Military Mass of Appreciation Saturday

FLINT TWP. — St. Pius X Catholic Church, 139 Hogarth Ave, will hold its annual Military Mass of Appreciation celebration at its 4:30 p.m. mass on Saturday

November 8. The emotional ceremony includes the reading of names and lighting of candles by families to honor and offer prayers for loved ones serving overseas. Organizers say the mass is one way the Church acknowledges soldiers for all they do to protect and defend freedom. — R.S.

C-A seeks help with Toy Give Away

FLINT TWP. — Donations and volunteers are needed for a Toy Give Away being coordinated by Carman-Ainsworth Schools. They are collecting new or gently used toys, books, games, sporting equipment, movies, CD’s, electronics, and coats/snow pants for children from newborn to high school age. Donation boxes will be available at all buildings through December 1st. The toys will be given away at The Learning Community, 1181 Scottwood Ave, on Thursday, December 4th from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. for Bendle and C-A Families. Davenport hosting free Affordable Care Act Seminar

FLINT TWP. – Davenport University invites the public to participate in its Affordable Care Act (ACA) Seminar, hosted at the Flint Campus from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 11. Participants will learn how to classify employees, understand the criteria for determining an applicable large employer, and identify strategies to comply with the Employer Shared Responsibility Mandate. The seminar will be held in Room 103 at the Davenport Flint ‘Campus, 4318 Miller Road. A light lunch will be served.
