Resource Genesee recruiting for program

FLINT — Resource Genesee’s Leadership Genesee program is now recruiting for the 2011- 2012 program year. The deadline to apply is Aug. 22.

Since 1973, the program has provided more than 1,150 participants with opportunities to network with peers, gain a greater awareness of Genesee County issues and resources, develop practical leadership skills, and make a difference in the community. The program begins September 27, 2011 and will meet monthly through May 2012, culminating with the New Leaders Dinner on May 24, 2012.

“Leadership Genesee is a remarkable organization that encourages future leaders to see the possibilities for making a difference. Because they encouraged us to do this without promoting a specific agenda, they were masterful in mentoring us to develop relationships, acquire new skills, and apply our efforts to projects that best suited our talents,” said Dr. Tom Ruediger, University of Michigan, Flint, 2010-2011 Leadership Genesee participant.

During the program, participants develop strong relationships with other Genesee County leaders, gain an appreciation of Genesee County’s growth potential, and grow in their knowledge of the local business, non-profit and government sectors. Business leaders understand that prosperous economies are the product of well-developed leaders.

John Matonich, President and CEO of Rowe Incorporated participated in the program last year.

“Genesee County businessmen and women have a responsibility to our community as corporate citizens. At Rowe Incorporated, we understand that by developing our employees as community leaders we are influencing and empowering the community in which we live and do business,” Matonich said.

The tuition-based program is $1,100 if a commitment to participate and $200 deposit is received by August 22, 2011 ($1300 after Aug. 22) and covers all program costs and materials, including meals during day long and service project sessions. Payment plans and limited scholarships are available.
