Salvation Army 82nd Thanksgiving concert set

FLINT — The community is invited to enjoy a FREE Thanksgiving concert featuring The Salvation Army Flint Citadel Band on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. Celebrating 82 years of band concerts this year’s performance will be held at the Salvation Army Flint Citadel located at 211 W. Kearsley St. Flint, MI 40502 (Corner of Kearsley and Beach St.).

In 1973 bandmaster James Curnow took the Flint Citadel Band to the Whiting to present a community concert: To Praise God; share the gift of His music; and provide the opportunity for the Holy Spirit to work in hearts and minds of the audience.

Enjoy an evening filled with beautiful music on Friday, November 21, doors will open at 6:00pm and concert at 7 p.m. The concert is free to the public; however, a free-will offering will be taken to help support the work of the Army in Genesee County.

Following the concert, the Flint Citadel Band League will sponsor an opportunity for all in attendance to enjoy food catered by Roma’s Restaurant ( in our Multi- Purpose Room) providing an opportunity for greetings and fellowship with band members and the Band League Support Members. Free parking is available at the DDA James W. Rutherford parking structure.

Shelter of Flint opens new medical clinic

FLINT – Shelter of Flint is pleased to announce the opening of an on-site medical clinic at its emergency shelter location at 924 Cedar Street. The clinic, which opened Oct. 14, is a partnership between Shelter of Flint and the Genesee Community Health Center, part of Genesee Health System. The Genesee Community Health Center (GCHC), specializes in meeting the needs of the homeless and provides care to anyone in need, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

Shelter of Flint clients face a variety of challenges, including lack of transportation and affordable child care. These challenges create barriers to accessing needed health care services. By offering comprehensive services at the shelter, GCHC is reducing barriers for Shelter of Flint clients in need of care.

Genesee Community Health Center: The Genesee Community Health Center is part of the Genesee Health System. The Health Center provides primary healthcare and helps with a myriad of healthcare services including mental health and substance use counseling and referrals. GCHC is a Federally Qualified Health Center, and their first location opened at 422 W. 4th Avenue in Flint in October of 2012. Their second location at Atherton East Apartments opened in August of 2014. – G.G.
