Wear Red on Friday

FLINT TWP. — National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 6. Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease.

Nationally sponsored by Macy’s department stores, the annual Go Red for Women event calls attention to statistics such as that heart disease and stroke kills 1 in 3 women every year. During Macy’s Wear Red Sale, Feb. 4-9, shoppers who wear red to any Macy’s store will get an additional 15-20 percent off purchases.

Shoppers can also shop online using the promo code RED. Exclusive Red Dress Pins will be sold in stores for $2 each with 100 percent of proceeds gong to support Go Red for Women. Since 2004, Macy’s has raised more than $50 million to the fight against heart disease in women.

A Red Dress Collection fashion show, presented by Macy’s will be shown live online at 8 p.m. on February 12.

Also applications are being accepted for 16 $2,500 Go Red scholarships to help minority women get jobs in the healthcare industry. — R.S.

Rep. Dan Kildee to chair DCCC Frontline Program

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced Tuesday that Congressman Dan Kildee has been named the chairman of its Frontline Program to help protect vulnerable Democratic incumbents.

Literacy training offered

FLINT TWP. — Would you like to help an adult to read, learn English as a Second Language or finish the GED process?

Genesee County Literacy Coalition is holding two mandatory training sessions for tutor volunteers from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 and Feb. 14.

The training will be held at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 5151 Lennon Road, Tutor Requirements: Finish both training sessions for tutor certification, High School Diploma or GED and provide two or more free hours of tutoring per week.

For training sessions, food will be beverages provided. Feel free to bring a brown bag lunch. $15 deposit for tutor book; 1 year reimbursement if training has been completed (certified) and become a functioning tutor.
