Book signing next week

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth High School students Donnell Spencer, Nandi Collins and Joshua Dubay will participate in a panel discussion and sign copies of their new book “Enable Us: Urban Students Reflect on Education” as part of a workshop from 9-11 a.m. on April 6 and 6-8 p.m. on April 7. The free workshop “Enabling Students To Learn & Emote” is presented by psychologists Recco S. Richardson and Vivian Tate-Hall. It will be held at the Uniquely Created Children’s Center, located in the former Powers Catholic High School building, at G-2040 W. Carpenter Road. It is designed for child care workers, religious leaders, parents, youth workers, law officials, social workers, counselors, educators, program managers, volunteers, athletic coaches and more. — R.S.

Library offering free Bingo

FLINT TWP. —Children ages 6 to 12 and teens ages 13 and up are invited to attend Bingo!, a free event with a chance to win prizes at the Flint Township-McCarty Library Branch of the Genesee District Library, 2071 S. Graham Road, at 1 p.m. on April 18. Registrations are requested as space is limited. Six of 30 available seats have been reserved. — R.S.

Jazz musician to headline sorority benefit gala

FLINT — Detroit-based jazz musician, Randy Scott will perform during a dinner and jazz gala, from 7 p.m. to midnight on April 11 at the Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint. Sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Flint Alumnae Chapter, “An Evening of Jazz” benefit gala also will include a strolling buffet, at 7:30 p.m., a silent auction, and an opportunity to take professional pictures.

Scott is a professional musician, record producer and composer. He has been awarded two Gold records, two Platinum records and one multi-platinum record for his work.

No C-A school board meeting next week

FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth Board of Education will not hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 7 due to Spring Recess which is April 3-12. Schools will be closed. The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be April 21 at 6:30 p.m. — R.S.
