Volunteers sought for fire safety project
FLINT TWP. — The American Red Cross will be at fire station No. 1, 5331 Reuben, on Saturday morning, April 29, to assemble and lead volunteers on a community canvassing project to install free home smoke alarms. The plan is to identify township homes needing smoke alarms then returning at a later date in May to install the equipment, said Fire Chief John Ringwelski. Project organizers already have installed more than 250 smoke alarms in the city of Flint and are now working with Flint Township, he said. It is part of a national initiative to reduce fire-related deaths. For more information about how to help, call the fire station 810-732-4413. — R.S.
