Volunteers needed for annual park clean-up
FLINT TWP. — Gleaner Flint Area Arbor will once again sponsor the annual Join Hands Clean-up Day at the Flint Township Park, 5200 Norko from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 2.. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to come out and help. Wearing sturdy clothing and gloves is recommended. It would also be helpful to bring tools such as shovels, ranks, branch toppers and hand trowels. Work crews will clean flower beds, add top soil and mulch to beds and plant new flowers. Other projects will include picking up litter, cutting and removing invasive autumn olive and buckthorn shrubs and clearing overgrowth from pathway edges. The group will meet early at the park pavilion for coffee and donuts. Pizza will be served for lunch at 1 p.m. The group is looking for a master gardener volunteer. Home preparedness volunteers sought
FLINT TWP. — The American Red Cross has launched a national campaign to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries. It is seeking and training volunteers to go doorto door to speak to residents about the importance of having smoke alarms and to offer free installation. They will also help residents develop a fire escape plan and to complete a fire safety checklist. GENESEE COUNTY — Last call to form a team f to participate in the 2015 Habitat for Humanity Olympics.
