Mott Middle College to Host Information Night

FLINT — Mott Middle College (MMC) will hold an Information Night on May 6, for students and their families interested in enrolling for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Beginning at 6 p.m. the Information night will be hosted on the campus of Mott Community College (MMC) in the Mott Library Event Center. Students and parent(s) must attend an information night to start the application process.

MMC is a five-year early college (grades 9-13), located on the campus of MCC in Flint, and operated by the Genesee Intermediate School District. This unique high school/early college program serves students in Genesee and surrounding counties by offering focused instruction and planning based on individual student needs, including academic support and career and college readiness.

Mott Middle College pays for tuition, mandatory courses, and registration fees associated with enrollment at MCC.

Kidney Cancer support group to meet May 13

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan will meet May 13 at 1:30 p.m.at Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute.

The speaker will be Marsh Schmit, RN. She is Breast Health Navigator for the support group at Hurley Medical Center. “All About Breast Cancer” is the topic. It is open to the general public

Shelter of Flint raises homelessness awareness

FLINT – This Mother’s Day season, Shelter of Flint will sell Mother’s Day cards to raise funds for its emergency shelter, transitional and permanent supportive housing programs, and its comprehensive services that help get individuals and families off the streets and into homes and jobs. By purchasing a Mother’s Day card from Shelter of Flint, donors can recognize a loved one and help provide shelter and affordable housing for the homeless at the same time.

Pick someone to whom you’d like to send a Mother’s Day card.

Donate to Shelter of Flint in honor of your card recipient, making sure to give us your recipient’s address. The amount you give is up to you.

On Mother’s Day, Shelter of Flint will mail a Mother’s Day card designed by children staying at Shelter of Flint to your recipient showing you helped a homeless woman and child in their name.

Shelter of Flint has served the homeless population of Genesee and Lapeer counties since 1983, when it opened as an emergency shelter for women. — G.G.
