Free scrap tire collection
FLINT TWP. — The township is again offering a free scrap tire collection day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, in the parking lot of the township hall, 1490 S. Dye Road. Each household will be allowed to drop off up to seven tires (or until the collection trailer is full). A picture identification or utility bill as proof of residency must be presented. — R.S.
Help needed for grad party
FLINT TWP. — The Carman-Ainsworth High School Post Graduation Party Committee is seeking donations, community and business support for the annual all-night party On June 4 hosted for graduating seniors. Chaperones and clean-up volunteers are needed as are donations of food, prizes and gift certificates. The Graduation Committee is made up of parents who throw the party to provide a safe environment for seniors to celebrate after graduation. The all-night, no-alcohol party is held a the high school under adult supervision. This year’s estimated costs of $14,805 includes $9,505 for entertainment, $2,200 for food and beverages, $2,800 for prizes and $300 for security. YWCA Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event is tonight
FLINT — Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., May 28 for the annual YWCA of Greater Flint Walk a Mile event to raise awareness about violence against women. Genesee County has one of the highest rates of sexual assault in Michigan, according to a press release. The walk is sponsored by Health Plus of Michigan and other local businesses and organizations. The walk begins at the YWCA at 6 p.m. Participants, some of then male, wearing high heels and flip flops will proceed downtown to the after party at the 501 Bar and Grill featuring food, drinks prizes and first-aid for any men who get blisters from walking in heels. Male participants must collect a minimum of $50 in pledges. They can register by calling the YWCA at 810-238- 7621. Women may walk for free and purchase a ticket to the after-party for $30. “Summer Breeze” Benefit fundraiser for scholarships
FLINT — The public is invited to attend “Summer Breeze”, an evening of fun and music, from 6-10 p.m Saturday, June 6 at the Flint Farmer’s Market Terrace, 300 E. 1st St. Hosted by the Flint chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Omicron Rho Chapter in affiliation with the Delta. Research and Educational Foundation, the event will include a silent auction with music provided by “Father Abraham,” D.J. Tickets are $15 in advance, $25 at the door.
