Walk a Mile event at YWCA
FLINT — The YWCA of Greater Flint is pleased to announce its annual Walk a Mile event. Every nine seconds, a woman is assaulted or beaten in the United States. Genesee County has one of the highest rates of sexual assault in Michigan.
Sponsored by Health Plus of Michigan and many other local businesses and organizations, Walk a Mile is a playful opportunity to raise awareness in their community about the serious issue of sexual violence.
This year’s event will be held May 28 with registration at 5:30 p.m. and the walk beginning at 6 p.m. It will begin at the YWCA, where participants will put on their high heels or bejeweled flip-flops and prepare to walk down Saginaw Street. The march will proceed downtown and end at 501 Bar and Grill for food, drinks and prizes.
Male participants must collect $50 in pledges. They can register by calling the YWCA at 810-238-7621. The $50 registration fee includes the walk, an event t-shirt, and a ticket to the after-party at 501 Bar and Grill. Women may walk for free and purchase a ticket to the party. — G.G.
