Mott Foundation renews funding for Y Safe Places
FLINT — The YMCA of Greater Flint is pleased to announce the Ruth Mott Foundation is continuing their support of Y Safe Places with a $155,193 grant. Y Safe Places is an offsite summer and after school program offered by the YMCA of Greater Flint. This is the third year, the Ruth Mott Foundation has funded the program.
“Studies show over 15 million children do not have adequate or appropriate supervision after school,” said YMCA Safe Places Director Moses Bingham. “These three sites offer families a safe place for their children to go after school to get homework help, a nice meal and snack, and of course have fun. Safe sites like these are important to stop the chain of violence in our community.”
Currently, more than 400 students use the Y Safe Places Facilities. The three sites, Downtown Y at 411 E Third St, Mt Olive Church at 1601 Fay St, and Cathedral of Faith at 6031 Dupont St., offer free programing for all youth 1st-12th grades (the Downtown site is for 1st – 8th grade only). These sites are open Monday – Friday from 4- 7 p.m.
