Security CU sponsors Bikes on the Bricks

FLINT– The motoring fun continues this summer as Flint-based Security Credit Union (SCU) sponsors the ninth annual Bikes on the Bricks motorcycle show and police riding competition in downtown Flint, Sept. 11-13.

“Over the years, Bikes on the Bricks has become one of Flint’s most recognizable community events,” said SCU President and CEO Christopher Estes. “Security Credit Union is pleased to sponsor and have a presence at this local event that brings the excitement of rumbling motors to downtown Flint.”

Throughout the weekend, SCU will offer bikers special financing on new and used motorcycles at the credit union’s booth located on the corner of South Saginaw and Kearsley streets. Buyerswillreceivea1percentannualpercentage rate (APR) discount off already low rates on the purchase of a motorcycle during the event.

SCU volunteers will also be onsite at Vehicle City Harley Davidson on Saturday morning to assist with registration of bikers participating in the annual police escorted ride into downtown Flint. The 40-mile ride which draws a large number of motorcycle enthusiasts each year will kick off the weekend festivities at 11 a.m. Vehicle City Harley-Davidson is located at 2400 Austin Parkway in Flint Township.

In addition to SCU serving as a platinum sponsor, Estes serves as the Vice President of the event’s Board of Directors, and will be seen volunteering throughout the weekend at the police training courses; blocking traffic during the police escorted ride; and judging the law enforcement course competition.

Hurley to host senior & caregiver workshop

FLINT – The Hurley Senior Center of Excellence at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, along with the Valley Area Agency on Aging are proud to host a Senior Caregiver Workshop Saturday Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre on Hill Road/US23 in Flint.

This Free Event will provide information to help caregivers keep their loved ones safe, happy and healthy.

The workshop will provide expert information on Alzheimer’s Disease, Advance Directives, Caregiver Stress, Bath & Bathing tips, proper lifting techniques, when and how to choose a care facility, and avoiding scams that target seniors. Those who attend will also be able to ask questions to a Pharmacist and Physician.

“As our population ages, we really see a need to give caregivers more support. When caring for a loved one, it can be a tough journey emotionally, physically, and financially. We want to be here for the caregivers to show them there is help out there, to ultimately help them give the best care for their loved ones,” said Cathy Metz, Hurley Senior Center of Excellence and Musculoskeletal Service Line Administrator.
