JCPenney holding ribboncutting at renovated store

FLINT TWP. — After an over $4 million renovation, JCPenney will unveil its ‘new look’ in the Genesee Valley Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, September 23 at 9:45 a.m. Enhancements include the addition of a Sephora cosmetics store inside the JCPenney Beauty Boutique. Sephora offers beauty favorites such as NARS, Smashbox, Bare Escentuals and Philosophy; top designer fragrances from Dior, DKNY, Dolce and Gabbana and more; along with Sephora’s own collection of high-quality beauty products and accessories. The Flint Township store is one of 69 JCPenney stores undergoing a storewide renovation this year as part of the company’s ongoing transformation into a destination for great style.— R.S.

Security Credit Union hosts troop collection drive

GENESEE COUNTY — Security Credit Union (SCU) is hosting a “Support Our Troops” collection drive to send care packages to United States soldiers overseas. Donations can be dropped off at any of Security Credit Union’s 11 locations through Oct. 31. The credit union has partnered with Operation Care Package of Michigan, a nonprofit group dedicated to sending support to deployed military service men and women. Items collected from SCU’s “Support Our Troops” drive will be packaged and shipped to troops for the holiday season. Suggested items include:  Personal toiletries (no travel size please): shampoo, soap, lip balm, dental floss, deodorant, lotion, eye drops and disposable razors.  Non-perishable food items: beef jerky, chips, crackers, dry cereal, protein bars, instant oatmeal, microwave popcorn, pudding cups and hard candies.  Clothing: Underwear, socks (white), bandanas, slippers and shower shoes.  Recreation materials: board games, batteries, puzzle books, CDs and DVDs, video games, athletic equipment, sewing kits and stationary. United Way holds Corvette giveaway

GENESEE COUNTY — Win a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe in a raffle drawing for United Way of Genesee County. An anonymous donor has provided a Crystal Red Metallic/Cashmere Corvette demo car with approximately 3,800 miles on it. It has a Leather interior, 6.2 Liter 430 HP Engine, Automatic transmission,2LTpackage,ForgedChrome Aluminum Wheels. The donor will pay the sales tax.
