Sybyl award nominations sought for 2015

GENESEE COUNTY — Do you know an outstanding community volunteer? Would you like to see them recognized for their outstanding service?

The Sybyl Award Committee is pleased to announce that nominations are once again being accepted for the 2015 Sybyl Award. The award was created in 2008 to honor the life of Sybyl M. Atwood.

Sybyl served as Program Director for Volunteer and Information Services at Resource Genesee and its predecessor organizations for more than 40 years. At the closing of Resource Genesee, the members of the Sybyl Award Committee pledged to continue honoring exceptional community volunteers in Sybyl’s name.

The award recipient will be announced at the Sybyl Award Celebration to be held Dec. 2.

Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. on Nov. 5. They can be emailed to: the Sybyl Award email address at sybylaward@gmail.com. Nomination forms are available at www.sybylaward.com.

I-69 Trade corridor to hold webinar

FLINT — A one-hour online webinar version of “Starting a Business” will be offered Nov. 12 from 2-3 p.m. by the I-69 Trade Corridor/Thumb Region of The Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) based at Kettering University in Flint.

The webinar” is available to anyone located anywhere in the state. Participants will need a fast internet connection, a good working computer with microphone and speakers, and an up to date browser.

“Marketing Your Business” Workshop in Flint

FLINT — A free “Marketing Your Business” workshop is being offered by The Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) at the Kettering Universit y Campus Center on Nov. 11from 1-4 p.m.

This workshop presents practical applications of marketing concepts designed to grow small businesses. It covers basic marketing tools including market analysis and research, target marketing, assessing competitors, and key marketing implementation tools. For pre-start or early stage startup businesses, pre-requisites to this class include two seminars, “Starting a Business” and/or “Writing a Business Plan”.
