Annual Winterfest coming soon

FLINT TWP. — Save the Date: WinterFest, the 7th annual Men at Work celebration of holiday sharing and giving, will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, December 5 in the cafeteria at Carman–Ainsworth Middle School, 1409 W. Maple Avenue. Admission is free but those attending are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items, gently used coats or unwrapped toys. Monetary gifts also are welcomed. All donations will benefit the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program. Free doughnuts and hot chocolate will be served. Firefighters helping Salvation Army

FLINT TWP. — On Saturday December 5, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Flint Township firefighters will be collecting clothing, and money for the Salvation Army in front of the Wal-Mart store on Corunna Road. Firefighters association President Ryan Woods is asking for public support to help support the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign this year. Last year, the firefighters collected nearly $10,000 in food and clothing for the Salvation Army. This year the crew would like to match or exceed that amount. — R.S.

Engineering competition at CAMS on Dec. 5

FLINT TWP. — Various sites in the Flint area have been working on building and programming engineering projects this fall. All will come together for “Power of K’nex and Bridges” an Engineering Competition, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, December 5 at Carman-¬≠Ainsworth Middle School, 1409 W. Maple Ave. Sponsored by Stemnetics, the event guest speaker will be David McGhee of the Skillman Foundation. The event includes food and prizes. Details: R.S.

Donations/volunteers needed for Toy Drive

FLINT TWP. — Donations of gently used items for children of all ages – babies to teens – are needed to brighten the holidays for C-A and Bendle families. Toys, books, games, sporting equipment, movies, CDs, electronics, art supplies and stocking stuffers are among items sought for the annual Toy Giveaway to be held at The Learning Community, 1181 W. Scottwood, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, December 3. Donation boxes have been placed at all C-A elementary schools, the Senior Center and at the Learning Community building.
