WFBA hosting annual holiday giveaway

FLINT TWP. —Fun and fundraising will come together for the West Flint Business Association’s 16th annual Holiday School Fundraiser. Usually 75-100 prizes are given away during the event, held at the WFBA monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 9, from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Valley Family Restaurant, 5009 Miller Road at Linden. Prizes include gift cards, event tickets, jewelry and other nice gifts. For a $10 donation at the door, each person attending will receive five tickets for the prize drawing. Additional tickets will be sold two for $5. There’s no limit on how many times you can win. Proceeds benefit WFBA’s student scholarship fund. — R.S.

Ballenger Highway Bridge construction near completion

FLINT TWP. — After two months of detours, motorists can expect Ballenger Highway south of Miller Road to reopen Saturday, Dec. 5, according to a press release from the Genesee County Road Commission (GCRC). That section of Ballenger Hwy. has been closed since August 25 when replacement began of the bridge over Swartz Creek by the GCRC and the Michigan Department of Transportation. The convenient road winds around to connect with 12th Street or to Van Slyke for access to the General Motors plant and other points south. — R.S.

Annual Winterfest at CAMS this weekend

FLINT TWP. — WinterFest, the 7th annual Men at Work celebration of holiday sharing and giving, will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, December 5 in the cafeteria at Carman–Ainsworth Middle School, 1409 W. Maple Avenue. Admission is free but those attending are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items, gently used coats or unwrapped toys. Monetary gifts also are welcomed. All donations will benefit the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program. Free doughnuts and hot chocolate will be served. Firefighters helping Salvation Army

FLINT TWP. — On Saturday December 5, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Flint Township firefighters will be collecting clothing, and money for the Salvation Army in front of the Wal-Mart store on Corunna Road. Firefighters association President Ryan Woods is asking for public support to help support the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign this year. Last year, the firefighters collected nearly $10,000 in food and clothing for the Salvation Army. This year the crew would like to match or exceed that amount. — R.S.
