Breast Cancer Fundraising Blitz
FLINT —Financial Plus Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team, the “Supporter’s”, will present the 4th Annual Pink Night on Oct. 6 from 6 -11 p.m. at Blackstone’s Pub & Grill, located at 531 South Saginaw St. in downtown Flint. This Pink carpet event will showcase a tasteful brassiere fashion show featuring one-of-a-kind brassieres designed by over 20 local businesses. The Brassiere Fashion show will be produced by Women2Women Magazine with hair designs by Garibella Salon. A lively live auction will immediately follow with an array of items such as; vacation packages to Great Wolf Lodge, autographed sports memorabilia from the Detroit Lion’s Stephen Peterman, a new Kindle donated by Auto Club of Michigan; IPOD Nano donated by Comcast; diamond jewelry from Medawar Jewelers, and much more including a silent auction. Guests can expect beverages, Asian-inspired hors d’ oeuvres, a live performance by local solo artist Bradford Fielder, a compelling masterpiece composed for the event by spoken-word poet Nicolas Custer and beats by Liquid Entertainment’s skillful DJ Cha’Chi. All proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative. Security Credit Union hosts troop collection drive
GENESEE COUNTY — Security Credit Union (SCU) is hosting a “Support Our Troops” collection drive to send care packages to United States soldiers overseas. Donations can be dropped off at any of Security Credit Union’s 11 locations through Oct. 31. The credit union has partnered with Operation Care Package of Michigan, a nonprofit group dedicated to sending support to deployed military service men and women. Items collected from SCU’s “Support Our Troops” drive will be packaged and shipped to troops for the holiday season. Suggested items include: Personal toiletries (no travel size please): shampoo, soap, lip balm, dental floss, deodorant, lotion, eye drops and disposable razors. Non-perishable food items: beef jerky, chips, crackers, dry cereal, protein bars, instant oatmeal, microwave popcorn, pudding cups and hard candies. Clothing: Underwear, socks (white), bandanas, slippers and shower shoes. Recreation materials: board games, batteries, puzzle books, CDs and DVDs, video games, athletic equipment, sewing kits and stationary.
