Financial Plus provides 16,452 meals for Food Bank

FLINT — Financial Plus Credit Union and the Swartz Creek Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their 12th annual Whatchamacallit networking event on Dec. 4.

Whatchamacallit is an early morning holiday networking event held at Financial Plus Credit Union’s main office. This event aims to raise money and donations to benefit the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, while getting business professionals and chamber members together for the holiday season.

“We are proud to announce we were able to raise $2,742.00 for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan at this year’s Whatchamacallit event, which equals 16,452 meals. We want to thank all attendees and the Swartz Creek Area Chamber of Commerce for rising bright and early and helping us raise these monetary donations for such a wonderful cause.” said Olga Long, Senior Vice President of Financial Plus Credit Union.

This highly attended early morning event was filled with giveaways, a breakfast buffet provided by Villagers Family Restaurant, Bella Birches, Donna’s Donuts, Magnificent Michigan Meals, Tim Hortons, Paddy McGee’s Irish Pub, Coffee Beanery, Comfort Keepers, Great Harvest Bread Company, Elegant Catering, and Tropical Smoothie Café, a photo booth by Freeze Frame, and a visit from the Grinch. State of the State program cover contest announced

GENESEE COUNTY — Students in the 51st House District have a chance to compete with other students across Michigan from elementary to high school for a chance to meet Gov. Rick Snyder and attend the State of the State address on Jan. 19.

Rep. Joseph Graves encourages the students of his district to take part in a contest to design the cover art for the 2016 State of the State program.

Students can submit their designs today through Jan. 3. The top five designs — judged by their creativity and originality — will be announced through social media on Jan. 5 and posted on Snyder’s Facebook page. The winning design will be determined by which one receives the most ‘Likes’ on Facebook by the end of the day on Jan. 8.

Contest entries should be sized to fit on a 5.5 inch x 8.5 inch cover. Students on a separate sheet should include their name, phone number, address, and email address, as well as their parent or guardian’s name, phone number, address, and email address, with their submissions.
