Dancing to the oldies

FLINT TWP. — Put on your dancing shoes. The Fairlanes & The DeVilles, a ‘50s rock and roll band, will provide the entertainment for “Dance Night,” a stroll down memory lane, hosted by the Flint Township Senior Center, 6-8 p.m., Friday, January 15. Tickets are $5 each and includes light refreshments. Only 100 tickets will be sold. To purchase tickets, call 810-732-6290. The center is located at 2071 S. WFBA changes monthly meeting day

FLINT TWP. — To avoid competition with other groups that meet on Wednesdays, the West Flint Business Association has changed its monthly meeting date to the third Thursday of each month, beginning January 21. The group meets from noon to about 1:30 p.m. at the Valley Family Restaurant, 5009 Miller Road. The group has monthly speakers and raises funds to award three annual scholarships. It meets from September through May. Group organizers said the new Thursday meeting day will be evaluated during the summer hiatus to decide if it is working out. — R.S.

Grave opening costs revised

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board approved a correction to grave opening costs, announced last month. A revised statement from Genesee Valley Vault of Holly, which digs graves at township cemeteries, asked that prices be raised to $25 year-round, effective January1, 2016. Previously, they asked for a $100 increase per grave opening during winter months only, December 15 through March 15. — R.S.

Church hosting Right to Life service

FLINT TWP. — Flint-area Right to Life will holds its 2016 Interdenominational Candlelight Prayer Service at 7 p.m, Friday, January 15 at Kingdom of Heaven Ministries, 2430 Dutcher Road. Lonnie Brown, the church pastor, will be the guest speaker. He is a founder of the Impact Pregnancy Resource Center and knowledgeable about the impact of abortion in the local community, especially among African-Americans, according to a press release. Church euchre tournament

FLINT TWP. — St. George Orthodox Church, 5191 W Lennon Rd, will host a Euchre Tournament on Friday, January 8. Doors open at 6 p.m. and play begins at 7 p.m. through 10 p.m. The cost is $5 per person and includes raffles, food and beverages and cash prizes.
