Genealogical Society plans research trip

GENESEE COUNTY – The Flint Genealogical Society is sponsoring a genealogy research trip to the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne from May 10 to 11. Bus fare is $45 for non-members, $40 for members. The cost does not include lodging at the Super 8, which is offering a special group rate, or meals.

Sorority Founders Day Brunch marks 103 years

GENESEE COUNTY — The Flint Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will celebrate 103 years of Service, Scholarship, and Sisterhood at a Founder’s Day Brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Mundy Township. Admission is $60 per person and the public is invited to attend. The sorority’s 24th Past National President, Cynthia Marie Antoinette Butler-McIntyre, will be the special guest speaker. United Way sponsoring free income tax service

GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee County Tax Assistance & Financial Services Coalition kicked off its 2016 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program on Feb. 6, offering free income tax preparation for low to moderate income families. Locations, dates and ours vary. The Coalition, in cooperation with the IRS, will have 5 VITA sites in Genesee County area through April 9. Each VITA site is staffed by volunteers and preparer has gone through extensive training and is certified by the IRS. United Way of Genesee County oversees the program. Kidney group meeting

FLINT — The Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan will meet March 23, from 1:30-3:30 pm at the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington Ave. off of Robert T. Longway Blvd. next to Mott College Tech Technical Building. The talk will be “Lifelines to Cancer Survival,” /An Interactive Workshop. Join author, Cancer Strategist Dr. Mark Roby, along with cancer survivors Wendy Clem, Susan “Theim, and Marie Wilmot as they discuss unusual ways to increase survival times.
