Application deadline extended for $100k college scholarship program

GENESEE COUNTY – Community Choice Credit Union has announced the Community Choice Foundation is offering students additional time to apply for its annual scholarship program, extending the application deadline to March 1.

Scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded to Michigan graduating high school seniors who pledge to stay in Michigan after graduation. To be eligible, applicants must plan on attending a Michigan college or university, and must pledge to stay in Michigan after college graduation. Scholarship applicants will be evaluated based on grade point average, dedication to community service and a written essay. New this year, the scholarship is open to all high school seniors in the state of Michigan.

GDL promotes March is Reading Month

FLINT – The Genesee District Library will kick off March is Reading month with the Rockin’ Reading Rally at the Genesee Valley Mall Center Court on Feb. 27 from noon to 2 p.m.

This is a free, family-friendly event. At noon, The Storytellers will jump-start the fun with stories, hands-on play with musical instruments, tunes from around the world and a funny musical skit.

At 12:45 Cirque Amongus will amaze and inspire both children and adults. Their daring vaudeville show is filled with juggling, music, magic and comedy.

“The Rockin’ Reading Rally lives up to its name because it is a rockin’ good time, and it gets kids excited about reading,” said Shalonda Griffin, library assistant for the Genesee Valley Center library.

Craft and vendor extravaganza coming

GRAND BLANC – Grand Blanc City School presents: Craft and Vendor Extravaganza, March 5 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Ezra W. Perry Center, 11920 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc.

Admission is $2 for adults 18 and up, children under 18 are free. In addition to crafters and vendors, there will be door prizes, 50/50 drawings and concessions/ bake sale.
