County-wide tourism organization changes name
FLINT — Though the promotion of Genesee County as a destination has been the job of the Flint Area Convention & Visitors Bureau since its founding, the broader reality of its mission was never reflected in the name. That will change this month as Genesee County’s tourism bureau will officially become the Flint-Genesee County Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We think this is an important change to reflect what our organization represents,” said Jack Schripsema, president of the Flint-Genesee County CVB. “We believe that Genesee County is a destination; it’s a great place to visit. We want the name to have even more currency with potential visitors.” Schripsema, who took over as president of the Bureau last month, said the name change does not reflect a change in the organizational mission. “Our job is to promote the entire county as a destination for overnight visitors, and we will continue to do that.” Details: Call 810-232-8930. — G.G.
