Genesys provides free newborn safety class

GRAND BLANC TWP. — Did you know placing a baby in an unaccustomed sleep position increases the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) by as much as 18 times? Did you know about one in five SIDS deaths occur while an infant is in the care of someone other than a parent? The Genesys Family Birthing Center staff wants to make sure first time parents are as prepared as possible for the birth of their new baby. That is why Genesys chose to start a new class called “Safety and Prevention,” for expectant parents and new parents. The two-hour class covers many topics of concern for new parents: SIDS, car seat safety, crib safety, changing table safety, safe feeding practices, pet safety, toy safety and safety hazards in the home. To sign up for the class, call the Genesys Family Birthing Center at 810-606-5897. Classes will be offered each month. — G.G.
