Benefit concert for Hurley Children’s Hospital

FLINT — Hurley Children’s Hospital and NASH FM 95.1 are presenting a benefit country concert on April 7 at Dort Federal Event Center in Flint, featuring Granger Smith & Tegan Marie to help kids and families affected by the Flint Water Crisis.

All proceeds go directly to Hurley Children’s Hospital, the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Old Newsboys to hold bowling fundraiser

FLINT — Help provide Christmas gifts to needy children with the roll of a bowling ball! The Old Newsboys of Flint will host the 4th Annual Bowling Fun-raiser & Silent Auction April 22. There will be two sessions this year: Session 1: 6:30- 8:30 p.m. and Session 2: 9:15 – 11:15 p.m. The cost is $25 per bowler and $10 for each non-bowler and includes two games with shoe rental, and a pizza and pitcher of pop for each team. Since 1924, the Old Newsboys have put gifts under the tree for more than 800,000 children across Genesee County.

Each box provides a sweat suit, socks and underwear, gloves, a knit hat, dental hygiene products, and an age appropriate gift to a needy child. The program is funded through the annual paper sale, donations and fundraisers like this. — G.G.

Kidney cancer support offers cancer film program

FLINT — The Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, Flint, next to MCC Tech Building off of Robert. T. Longway Blvd, and the Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan will present a Cancer Film Program, May 18, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at First film, from “The Emperor of All Maladies” — Magic Bullets followed by “Metastatic RCC (Kidney Cancer). Handbell Festival & Concert

GRAND BLANC — The Faithful Ringers from Faith Lutheran Church and the Celebration Ringers from Grand Blanc United Methodist Church will be participating in the 9th Annual Peggy Van Vlack Memorial Bell Festival April 23.

After a workshop in the morning, a free public concert will be held in the gymnasium at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Rd., Grand Blanc at 3 p.m. Ringers from at least seven other area handbell choirs will be participating.
