Interfaith conference coming May 20

FLINT — The public is invited attend an Interfaith Reproductive Justice Conference on May 20 at the Woodside Church, United Church of Christ at 1509 E. Court Street, Flint. The conference offers workshops to strengthen the knowledge and skills needed to amplify the voices of activists as an alternative to Michigan’s “religious right”.

Organized by the Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network Interfaith Reproductive Justice Coalition, the conference is co-sponsored by groups from seven faiths: United Church of Christ, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Episcopal, Presbyterian and Unitarian Universalist with funding from the Unitarian Universalist Association, Institute for Public Leadership, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, Buck Dinner, Temple Israel and Planned Parenthood of Michigan.

Kidney cancer support offers cancer film program

FLINT — The Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, Flint, next to MCC Tech Building off of Robert. T. Longway Blvd, and the Kidney Cancer Support Group of Michigan will present a Cancer Film Program, May 18, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at First film, from “The Emperor of All Maladies” – Magic Bullets followed by “Metastatic RCC (Kidney Cancer).

Flint Barbershop sings for the community

FLINT — Flint’s legendary Arrowhead Barbershop Chorus will perform their annual spring concert, May 21 at 6 p.m. at Powers High School Auditorium, 1505 West Court Street. Proceeds help scholarships at Powers and provide funding to perform at hospitals, churches, senior residence centers, and VFW facilities at no costs.

The Flint Arrowhead Barbershop Chorus has entertained audiences for almost a century with patriotic American standards and familiar tunes from days gone by.

An evening of music and comedy called Coney Island Memories featuring the 30 voice chorus and two barbershop quartets the “Rolls Voyce Barbershop Quartet” and the Flint based “Frontier Barbershop Quartet.” Show tickets are $20 for adults, seniors 62+ are $18 and children 12 and under are $15. Groups of 10 or more are $15 each. All tickets sold at the door are $20.

Immediately after the show a “Meet the Cast Afterglow” will be held where more Barbershop music and delicious Flint style Coney Islands will be served by the Flint Coney Conexion restaurant. Afterglow tickets are $10.
