WFBA presents a nnual scholarships
FLINT TWP. — Jim Ply, principal of the Genesee Career Institute, will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the West Flint Business Association, at noon, Thursday, May 19 at the Valley Family Restaurant at Miller and Linden roads. Ply will talk about the role of the Institute and in preparing students for the future and how it helps them fulfill that role. WFBA will also present its annual $2,500 scholarships to three area students. The meeting is open to the public. — R.S.
Run to highlight mental illness and teen suicide
FLINT TWP.— Empathy for All, a student group at Carman-Ainsworth High School, is sponsoring Pause 5K run/walk to raise awareness about mental health issues and teen suicide, on Saturday, May 21 at the high school cross country field. Entry fee is $10 for adults and any donation from students. Registration will start at 8 a.m. All proceeds will go to EFA’s senior scholarship and a donation to Flint Survivors of Suicide. Park in the northwest lot and look for purples signs for direction to the field. — R.S.

Hazardous waste disposal
FLINT TWP. — Just in time for serious spring cleaning, the semiannual Household Hazardous Waste & Electronic Waste Recycle Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21. Two drop-off sites will be available: Grand Blanc High School west campus, 1 Jewell Trail in Grand Blanc and the Flint East- Water Service Center, 3310 East Court Street. Township Economic Development group to meet
FLINT TWP. — The annual meeting of the Flint Township Economic Development Corporation will be held at 5 p.m., May 18 at the township offices, 1490 South Dye Road. The board will elect officers and discuss economic developments during the past year. — R.S.

Their talent show is Sept. 17 at the U-M, Flint Theater and is a benefit for scholarships for physically handicapped students in our area.
