Variety of events at GDL in June
FLINT TWP. — The Genesee District Library will be hosting a variety of family events during the month of June.
The Flint Township-McCarty Library will hold Go Fly a Kite on June 11 at 1:30 p.m. Participants (ages 4-8) will build and fly kites and spinners while investigating flight and the properties of air.
The Genesee Valley Center Library (Sears Wing) will hold a Marble Coasters class on June 14 at 6 p.m. Participants (ages 8-12) will use engineering skills to design and build a marble roller coaster with helpers from Sloan Museum.
The Flint Township-McCarty Library will hold the Nature of Chocolate on June 21 at 5:30 p.m. Laurel Zoet, naturalist and former pastry chef, will share the ecology, history and manufacturing techniques of chocolate and provide eight samples for tasting. — R.S.
Schools of choice apps now being accepted at C-A
FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools is accepting applications until June 14 for Kindergarten – 5th grade through the Limited State Schools of Choice program for the 2016-2017 school year. It allows a limited number of non-resident children to attend school in the district, beginning in the Fall of 2016. Applications also are being accepted from now until August 26 for grades 6 – 12 through the Unlimited State Schools of Choice program. Applications and a behavior report must be turned in by the stated deadlines to be considered. K-5 schools include Dillon, Dye, Randels, Rankin and Stalker. For 6th – 12th grades, schools include CA Middle School, CA High School and Carman Park / Baker Career Academy. Registration for Sloan Auto Fair is underway
FLINT — The Sloan Museum Auto Fair is an exciting two-day car show with music, exhibits, family fun with activities for kids, entertainment, Treasures in the Meadow, craft vendors, food vendors, vehicles for sale, and 600 or more great automobiles on display.
The show is held on the beautiful Flint Cultural Center Campus. All years, makes, models and descriptions are welcome. It is presented by Genisys Credit Union.
Vehicle registrations are accepted online, through the mail, in person at Sloan Museum, and on the day of the show. Register before June 15 and save. The vehicle registration is $15 in advance if the vehicle is not to be judged, $20 in advance for judged.
If you’d like to wait and register the day of the show, then fees are are $20 if the vehicle is not to be judged, and $25 for vehicles to be judged. Details: www.sloanautofair.com. — G.G.
