Schools of choice applications deadlines

FLINT TWP. — Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools application period has ended for grades K -5 through the Limited State Schools of Choice program for the 2016-2017 school year, it allows a limited number of non-resident children to attend school in the district, beginning in the Fall of 2016. Applications will continue being accepted until Aug. 26 for grades 6 – 12 through the Unlimited State Schools of Choice program. Applications and a behavior report must be turned in by the stated deadlines to be considered. K-5 schools include Dillon, Dye, Randels, Rankin and Stalker. For 6th – 12th grades, schools include CA Middle School, CA High School and Carman Park / Baker Career Academy. GISD Implements Summer Four-Day Work Week

GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) will once again implement a four-day work week during the summer. This initiative is part of a continuing effort to substantially reduce energy costs for the district. The regular five-day work week will be compressed into a four- day work week to achieve these savings.

The summer schedule will begin June 20, and end with the last Friday off, Aug. 19. All GISD facilities will be closed on Fridays with the exception of a portion of the Erwin L. Davis Education Center and Business Services on Hill Road to accommodate critical/essential services as needed. The district’s summer business hours will be:

An Empowering Women’s Spiritual Retreat by Glorious Ministries

FLINT — A two­day Women’s Retreat for spiritual growth, hosted by Glorious Ministries, is open for registration. This retreat, designed to encourage and empower women will be held Aug. 19-20 at the Eagles Nest Church, 4181 E. Mt. Morris Rd.

Glorious Ministries is very excited to be able to offer the 2016 Women’s Retreat this August. Previous retreats have shown women the tremendous growth that can be triggered by being in a community of other women.

This empowering, refreshing retreat begins on Friday with registration at 6 p.m. and the program at 7­9 p.m. The uplifting activities will continue on Saturday with breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. and the program continuing throughout the day until 9 p.m.
