Child Welfare Society Provides Funding for Y Safe Places

FLINT — The YMCA of Greater Flint has announced The Child Welfare Society provided Y Safe Places with a $5,000 grant.

Y Safe Places is an offsite summer and after school program offered by the YMCA of Greater Flint and supported through the Ruth Mott Foundation and YMCA of Greater Flint Foundation and serves over 800 local children every year. “We are proud to receive support from the Child Welfare Society.

Y Safe Places offers free, safe afterschool programming for students in grades K – 12th grades from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students enjoy daily activities focused on individual growth, teamwork, healthy lifestyles and fun in a safe environment. Safe Places operates at six locations:

DAVISON — Family Promise of Genesee County (FPGC) will be hosting its 4th Annual Give Me Shelter 5K and breakfast on Aug. 13. This race supports Family Promise of Genesee County, to register for the race visit,

Give Me Shelter 5K is a competitive, bib-timed run/walk held at Jack Abernathy Regional Park, in Davison, and is open to all registered participants. Packet pickup is Aug. 12, at Complete Runner (915 Dort Hwy., Flint). Day of registration 7:00 a.m. at the park. The tax-deductible advanced registration fee is $25; all paid registrations by July 25, 2016, will receive a tech t-shirt commemorating the race.
